Saturday, July 26th, 5pm: The People's Mic
Saturday, July 26th, 5pm - 7pm
Welcome to The People’s Mic!
Poetry , Politics & A Plate…
The People’s Mic is a space for politically-focused poetry & art that uplifts progressive aspirations. It’s a space to confront oppression and all that perpetuates it; to shine a light on resistance; to share the vision and active construction of a just world, unapologetically. We begin with our awesome invited poets, break for refreshments and conversation and then settle back in for an open mic. If you’re inspired to share a poem, song, rant, story— a whatever— about creating a just world, you’re welcome to the stage! Our gatherings are fiery, thought provoking, and delicious. Look forward to tasty vegan bites, signature mocktails and rich conversation.
As a "benefit" mic, we donate event proceeds to our host organizations, to support their liberatory and community service work. We appreciate Holy Ground’s many community offerings of low cost/no charge breath/body work, art experiences , and its mutual aid bread share. We deeply appreciate Holy Ground’s work in hosting restorative discussions between communities in conflict based on consciousness-raising and truth-telling about a much misrepresented history. We further appreciate Lisa Schultz’ decade+ of work in Gaza, and the dedication of Holy Ground to promoting awareness through the presentation of Palestinian arts & culture.
Proceeds to benefit Holy Ground’s just-launched Community Clinic.
