Saturday, October 24th at 7pm: An Evening of Palestinian Poetry
Saturday, October 24th from 7pm - 9pm

šŸ‰ Join us for a very special evening of community, poetry, and delicious Palestinian food.

Lenna Jawdat will share poems, verses and reflections from 70,000 Poems, a visceral and inventive collection of poetry rooted in the theft of 70,000 books from Palestinian homes and private libraries by Zionist forces before and during the Nakba of 1948. Of those books, most have vanished; just 6,000 remain, locked in the Israeli National Archives -- unreachable by Palestinians.

Summer Farah will share from her debut poetry collection The Hungering Years, a rush of breathless song, voicing confessions soĀ often left unsung amidst personal and collective crisis.Ā ā€œI am afraid ofĀ asking the right questions,ā€ Farah admits. But through intimateĀ conversations with fellow Arab-American writer and literary ancestorĀ Etel Adnan, this work finds the courage to ask: What is art? An escape?Ā A reflection? Another unhealthy attachment? Though the answers areĀ elusive, what steps into the light is a collective of friends whoseĀ genuine care and companionship anchor these poems through theirĀ spiraling search.

Everyone is welcome at no cost. Ā Delicious Palestinian Mezze by Samer Ghrawi is included with a suggested donation of $13.

Come early to peruseĀ Watermelon Books and stay late to meet the beautiful community that is continually lifting up voices and liberation of Palestine and all oppressed people worldwide.

We look forward to welcoming you to Watermelon Books & Holy Ground.
